Announcing Vocdoni App: Making secure online voting accessible to every organization

Built on seven years of high-stakes experience

Vocdoni is not new to this space. For seven years, we have been the infrastructure behind some of the most successful online voting processes globally. We have powered votes for FC Barcelona, enabled elections for big political parties like Esquerra Republicana, and facilitated secure council votings for the Barcelona City Council and official referendums for the Bellpuig City Council, and has made AGMs easy for professional bodies, such as the Association of Industrial Engineers of Catalonia, to conduct their votings.

Until now, we have been providing secure online voting technology to all these organizations with custom projects. But now, we have distilled seven years of R&D and field experience into an intuitive, web-based platform. We are taking the same high-guarantees technology used by governments and major football clubs and making it accessible to any organization: no sales calls required, no hidden costs, no installation needed.

The problem with "black box" voting

Most digital voting tools currently on the market operate as "black boxes." You submit data to a private server, and you receive a result. You cannot mathematically prove that your vote was counted, nor can you verify that the final tally hasn't been altered or what software was executed.

Vocdoni is different. We utilize an open-source voting protocol underpinned by advanced cryptographic mechanisms and decentralized infrastructure.

• Universally Verifiable: The entire process is transparent, immutable, and mathematically proven. Anyone can audit the process.
• Privacy-First: We use advanced cryptography to ensure that while the process is transparent, the voter’s identity remains anonymous.
• Censorship-Resistant: Because we do not rely on a single centralized point of failure, the voting process cannot be stopped or tampered with once launched.

1. Frictionless management

The platform provides a streamlined editor to build voting processes in minutes. You can manage your memberbase directly within the app, removing the need for external spreadsheets or complex database integrations.

2. Comprehensive security & authentication

Besides the high guarantees of our voting protocol, we offer 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) via SMS and Email, ensuring that the person casting the vote is the legitimate credential holder.

3. Advanced voting logic

• Different Voting Methods: Currently, we support single choice and multiple choice voting, which addresses most common use cases. We are continuously working on adding more voting methods.
• Flexible Results Display: Organizers can choose to display results publicly in real-time for transparency, or keep them hidden until the process concludes to influence voter behavior.

4. Team collaboration

Governance is rarely a one-person job. The app includes a robust Roles System, allowing you to invite team members with specific permissions.

5. Testing & drafts

To ensure seamless execution, we have built a Drafts Management system. You can save processes and, crucially, duplicate existing votes into drafts. This allows for rapid testing and iteration before going live.

6. Universal accessibility

Democracy should not be hardware-dependent. Vocdoni App is entirely web-based and responsive, allowing voters to participate securely from any device (smartphone, tablet, or desktop) without downloading a single application.

Transparent pricing

We believe cost should not be a barrier to secure democracy. Our pricing structure is transparent, scalable, and designed to let you test freely.

For live processes, we offer three clear tiers:

• Free: Ideal for smaller organizations. Includes up to 100 members, 5 annual voting processes, and basic analytics.
• Essential: For growing organizations. Scales to 1,000 members* with and 20 processes, adds SMS 2FA capabilities, and includes priority support. 
• Premium: For large-scale governance. Supports up to 5,000 members*, 50 processes, multiple administrators, and 24-hour priority support.
• Custom: For those with specific requirements, we offer tailored solutions.

*Members on both the Essential and Premium plans have the option to purchase additional packages of 500 members for 15 eur, to increase their member base limits.

The "Sandbox" Rule: Irrespective of your plan, any voting process with fewer than 10 voters is always free and does not count toward your plan’s usage limits. You can run unlimited test votes to ensure everything is perfect before launching.

The roadmap: what comes next

We are constantly creating new features to better meet the needs of all organizations and make the app more user-friendly for both voters and organizations.

• Immediate Term (December): We are rolling out Weighted Voting (essential for hybrid cooperatives, federations, and shareholder meetings) and Vote Delegation, allowing members to assign their voting power to a trusted proxy. And Vote Overwrite for preventing coercion (a voter can vote under pressure, then change it later in private)
• Advanced Methods: We are integrating Ranking Voting and other complex tabulation methods to support diverse electoral systems.
• Live AGMs: We are refining the UX for live events, introducing a seamless "question-by-question" flow for dynamic meetings.
• The DAVINCI Protocol (2026): In the background, our team is developing the DAVINCI protocol. Scheduled for implementation in 2026, this will represent a big leap in digital voting standards, offering unprecedented scalability, coercion resistance, and privacy guarantees.
